BAD LUCK WITH COLLEGE CREDIT SCORES- GOOD LUCK WITH TOPFICO

America's future rests on the shoulders of its shining youth, most of whom are going to college to gain educations that will allow them to be successful in the world, follow their dreams and achieve great things. But if the present is any indicator of the future, America will be in serious debt. Honestly America is already in debt, and perhaps we can blame the credit habits of our young adults on the credit habits of our government leaders. The billions and billions of dollars we now face down  is perhaps the example from which our youth learn. But whether or not we have taught them this bad habit they have learned it, and are buried beneath it. The average college student has at least four credit cards with a balance of at least 3,000 dollars, on the extreme end we're looking at college students who have 7,000 dollars in credit card debt. The most probable situation is that we have taught them these bad habits through example. But the only way for the future to look any different is for college students to be educated on the proper habits to have. If you are one of America's rising generation, and you have just taken charge of your own credit you need to understand why it is important and how to handle it.

Good credit is important, especially if you want to be able to make any investments in your future. Your credit history is made up of credit cards, and other credit (any sort of loan you have had). Each of these is compiled into a credit report and graded with a credit score. These days everyone, from lenders to employers are beginning to get into the habit of asking for your credit report or credit score before they will approve any applications. Having too much credit card debt will leave hugely negative marks on your credit report and will definitely drive your credit score down. Irresponsibility will reflect badly and also decrease your credit score, this means things like missing payments, or charging excessively close to the limit on a credit card. Lenders can refuse your loan application, or attach a high interest rate if you do get one. Landlords may require that you have a co-signer. And employers will not hire you. Having good credit is essential, especially when you are striking out as an independent individual. And whether or not you have a good credit history will definitely depend on how you use, and don't use credit cards during your college expereince.

Here are some tips on using credit cards during your college years:

~ONE credit card is plenty. You may be tempted to apply for credit cards, especially when they are thrown at you with as much enthusiasm as the credit market does pursue 18 year old individuals. It is important that you keep your cards to a minimum until you understand the ins and outs of credit. You don't need more than one, and every application you make drops your credit score, while every credit card you have increases the risks of credit debt.

~Pay the FULL balance ever month. Get in the habit of paying in full the balance that is charged on your account when you get your statement. When you pay the balance you will only pay for what you purchased and not for heavy interest rates or the extra fees. This of course is dependent upon your charging habits. Do NOT charge what you can't afford to pay. We have gotten into the bad habit, here in America, of charging when we don't have the money, as though that is how credit is supposed to work. Buy now pay later. But you will pay later, and it will be hard. If you can't afford it don't charge it to your card. At the end of the month you want to be able to pay off your balance.

~ Stay UNDER the credit limit, by at least 30% and avoid going over 50%. There is no long or short to this. You do not want to go over the limit, the fees are expensive and hard to get rid of. Make sure with every purchase you are really analyzing it for whether it is a NEED or a WANT. If you really don't NEED it, you don't need it and mixing up wants with your needs is going to sorely cost you in the long run.

In the end, credit debt, and bad credit habits are prevalent amongst college students. And if your credit score is worse than you ever imagined, you can not afford to ignore it.
