Gun Safety

Perhaps we are beating a dead horse here. I mean, everyone knows that if they are going to own a gun they need to take the responsible action of getting themselves a gun safe... right? Actually the truth of the matter is no, a lot of people don't buy themselves a gun safe, just as we take those we care about for granted, we take safety for granted. We sort of assume that an accident will never happen to us. But the truth of the matter, it can and does happen, to families every day. Buying a gun safe is the best way to prevent not only accidents of a tragic nature from happening in your home, but burglars and thieves, can't get at your weapons, meaning you don't have to worry about putting ammunition in the wrong hands.

Gun safes that are made of steel are the best. And if you are going to rush out right now, and do the responsible thing, of buying a safe, you may want to stop and hear me through. There are different quality steel safes out there. More steel, thicker steel, and higher quality steel, equals more protection. Although, continuing in our, thinking ahead habit, thicker steel safe also equals harder to attach to the floor. And you do want to attach it to the floor. But its really difficult to drill through a thick steel safe, and bolt it to the ground. You could hire a person with the proper kind of equipment, and they can perform this service for you. The think is, choose wisely where you are going to place your safe in the house. Don't get it stuck in the middle of your room, because it isn't moving.

Gun Safe Facts

Most safes are fire-resistant, which is great, it means that they won't catch on fire as quickly as the rest of your house. But most of them, are not fire-proof. If your gun collection is valuable, or f important sentimental value to you, it is worth the extra money to purchase a fireproof safe. These safes have ratings, listed in grades of the amount of heat, and length of time that your safe can withstand the heat.

Still thinking ahead, recognize that you guns may be of different lengths. So the size of your safe is going to depend on the quantity, and size of your collection. If all you own are a brace of pistols, then a small safe of the same quality as a large safe, is going to be cheaper, that's a given. Smaller safes may have a shelf inside, this is easily removed for your convenience so that you can put your pistols away as you want them arranged. Smaller safes also are easier to hide, in a closet, under a bed, beneath the floorboards. Bigger safes are harder to hide, but if you own shotguns and rifles, don't leave yourself hanging, you can always find a place to put the safe away, and out of sight. Bolt all your safes to the ground, although larger safes are harder to move, at least make sure that small pistol safes are secured to the floor, otherwise they can just be picked up and carried off.

You can probably buy a gun safe, at the same store you purchased your gun at. If you can't find it there there a plenty of online stores you can shop at, and often you can find it at wholesale, even with the price of shipping and handling it will come out cheaper in the end. So do the right thing, be responsible, save your loved ones from careless endangerment and buy a gun safe.
