STOP FOR FILING: TRY WOOD FILING CABINETS
56Hold it, stop what your doing,
and look at the office around you, or the desk that this computer is
sitting on. Its pretty messy. Don't worry nine times out of ten they
are. I've seen a lot of them. We all let it get away from us.
A little paper here, a dinner plate there. We're busy people, the world
just seems to be gaining momentum and no one can really help it. Everyone
wants answers faster, results faster, and we all want to have to do
less work for it. But the truth to staying on top of it all, isn't actually
that scary. The truth is, all it takes is a little time once, and you
can keep yourself organized and feeling free for a very long time.
Might I make a suggestion.
Wood filing cabinets. Now here's my reasoning. See, we all like to feel
like the environments that we surround ourselves in are nice, comfortable
endearing. Cluttery desks, chaos filled offices and disorganized shelves
don't help that out at all. I mean really, come on, you agree. The places
that seem the nicest, the most elegant, sophisticated, the people that
seem to have it all, who get the best of everything, they always have
tidy offices and organized libraries, and their desks are clutter free.
How do they do it. They take a little time.
First, they buy a cabinet,
(we're thinking wood here), and they fill it with files. Really no joke,
they organize out the things that they bring to the desk. They keep
everything in separate piles and if not in separate ones, they label
everything. Staying organized allows us to think, it keeps busy minds
focused because the room feels focused. And if you walk into a room
that feels focused its not hard to keep it that way. The organized successful
people, will sort out their files into the filing cabinet that they
just bought. And whenever a new job or new file comes their way, they
can refer to the old one that has been filed away, or they can simply
file away the new one, into its place where it can be found. Not only
is organization good for the mind, its awesome for business. If jobs
don't go missing on your cluttered desk because they are kept in their
proper file in the filing cabinet, you won't turn them in late, or have
them surface months later after its already too late, and your in up
to your neck.
Okay okay, so that's great
and all about organization, but why the emphasis on wood. Well, in truth,
creating a productive environment is far too often overlooked, or paired
up with creating a sterile work environment. The twain shall never meet.
I mean, leaving room for the fact that we are all different, taking
metal, blacks, and grays out of the office, and putting in wood automatically
warms up the room. Brings in life, and vibrance. If the room in which
you work is inviting, you will be more capable of producing quality
work. Wood is also incredibly durable, and has a definite feel of authority
to it. If you take a little time to de-clutter-ify your office, or desk,
you will be pleasantly surprised the difference you will feel in your
work, and your relaxation, and whatever else you do at that messy desk
of yours.
